| AU Trustee, Dr. Bessie Mae Holloway | | Date: 1987 | Size: 329x470 pixels | | | Dr. Bessie Mae Holloway, a Mobile County educator, is Auburn University's first black trustee. She was named by Governor George Wallace in 1985 to fill an unexpired term. She was reappointed to a full twelve-year term in 1987. Dr. Holloway is shown greeting Auburn graduates at commencement. She earned a doctorate in education from Auburn, a master's from Xavier University in Louisiana, and a bachelor's from Alabama State.
