Horse-drawn artillery enlivened ROTC drills on Bullard Field in the 1930s.  Horses had been a part of military training at least from the spring of 1921, when fifty-three steeds arrived from Oklahoma and silenced a standing joke about Auburn's horseless artillery unit.
