Men's basketball team

One of Auburn's winningest basketball teams, the 1927-28 edition, won twenty of twenty-two games, including three victories in the Southern Conference Tournament before losing to Ole Miss 32-31 in the championship game.  Cliff "Jelly" Akin and Frank Dubose made All-Southern.  Fob James, Sr., captained the team.  Left to right, front row: coach Mike Papke, Buck Ellis, twins Fob and Ebb James, Akin, Moon Mullins, manager Elmer Salter.  Back row: Al Smith, Louie James (brother of the twins), Dubose.  Catcher Ebb James captained the 1928 baseball team that won Auburn's second consecutive conference title.  Akin and Ellis were outfielders, and Fob James played first base.
