"Rats" imitate upperclassmen

Four shorn freshmen, called "rats," posed as hard-drinking poker players in 1917 at Dumas Ranch, a Magnolia Avenue boarding house.  While the props may have been staged for the photographs, alumnus Lyle Brown said the pranks were pretty rough.  "You might come home and find a yearling tied to your bed," he said.
