In 1856, the state legislature chartered the East Alabama Male College, AU's earliest predecessor. Over the next 150 years, Auburn would become one of America's great land-grant universities and center stage for some of the most significant events in Alabama history. In 2006 Auburn celebrated its sesquicentennial. The festivities included a lecture series which highlighted Auburn's greatest moments through entertaining and informative presentations from a special ensemble of historians and Auburn family members.
